CTN currently has 55 employees and students, divided into two labs. Our group is ambitious, dynamic and international, and we work in a fast-paced working environment.
CTN is part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, and is located at Panum. CTN comprises 2 floors of newly constructed laboratories, and is well-equipped for virtually all capabilities of modern neuroscience.

Our Group is aimed at defining new strategies for the treatment of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders. Research focuses on utilizing human pluripotent stem cells as tools to study the biology of neural precursors and glial progenitor cells in both normal and diseased environments. Of particular focus are the myelin disorders (multiple sclerosis, leukodystrophies), and the neurodegenerative disorders, including Huntington’s disease, schizophrenia and frontotemporal dementia. Our research also includes understanding the conversion of glial progenitor cells into glial tumors.
Schizophrenia (SCZ) and Huntington disease (HD) are different disorders that nonetheless share several cardinal features, that suggest common aspects to both their pathogenesis and disease phenotypes. Both are unique to human beings, can manifest with psychosis, involve significant white matter loss, and are characterized by abnormal patterns of gene expression by forebrain glial cells. Recently, both SCZ and HD have been linked to dysmyelination in adult patients; the disease phenotype is associated with a delay in the development of the sole myelin-producing cells of the brain, the oligodendrocytes (OL). The maturation of myelinating OL from their progenitors is a critical step for the myelination during embryonic development and adulthood. During this process, global epigenetic changes take place to achieve the progressive heterochromatinization and the correct nuclear positioning of OL-related genes. The project will aim to get a comprehensive understanding of the epigenetics of OL maturation
